Skin Purging

Skin Purging

The term "skin purging" refers to a reaction to an active ingredient that increases the cell turnover rate. Before your skin can reproduce new cells that cycle to the surface, the extra stuff that already there must rise to the top such as flakes, pimples, and excess sebum. During a purge period, it is a known fact that everyone's purging can look very different from the next person. Commonly seen breakouts consists of cysts, whiteheads, papules, and pustules.

There are differences between purging and then simply having a bad reaction to a new product.

Reaction or breakout from a product:

- happens in a new area where you don't breakout

-normally takes 8-10 days to appear, mature, and shrink

Purging from a product:

-happens where you normally breakout

-disappears faster than a normal pimple

People who are first time experiencing purging may not what to or not to do during this time period. When going through a purge try not to HydraFacial to remove impurities, don't use any drying products such as exfoliating acids. Everyone's skin is uniquely different so the time frame for a breakout can be different. Most dermatologists say purging should be over within 4-6 weeks of starting a new skin care regimen.
